Welcome to Everything Bhakti! - The online magazine about Devotional Yoga in all its forms! |

This is me standing in Ganga Ma in Rishikesh, India in October, 2007. Devotees know that the Ganga is not just a river, she is a Goddess and Mother of all. Those who know this Truth will never be harmed by her. She claimed me. I am Hers. I was physically able to go to India because I healed an eight and a half year span of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia by a combination of Bhakti Yoga, singing, and Feldenkrais. Over the years, I tried countless medicinal therapies with mostly disastrous results and endured having my hopes dashed repeatedly. When I began chanting mantras in Sanskrit in May 2007, I felt something shift on a cellular level. Intrigued, I immersed myself in a daily practice of chanting a mala (108 repetitions) of Gayatri mantra. When I started chanting, I couldn't sit on the floor for even five minutes. Within two months, I could sit on the floor for four and a half hours. I went from being in excruciating pain every day of my life to being virtually pain free. I gained the freedom to live life fully and this is a priceless gift. While in India for three weeks, I whitewater rafted on Ma Ganga, hiked up the foothills of the Himalayas and walked long distances along the ghats in Varanasi in 100°F heat. If it weren't for the healing properties of sound, there is no way I could have even walked up the stairs to my rooms on the third and fourth floors of ashrams where we stayed. I've been healed over a year now and I went from crying from the pain of sitting in my desk chair at work to going to school full time, holding down a full time job, singing in a very demanding choir, taking voice classes and workshops, taking yoga classes and basically running full speed ahead seven days a week and loving it! |
